For this one, I wanted to tap into what makes Popeye such an instantly recognizable character—those exaggerated forearms, the proud stance, and that stubborn, squinty confidence he carries in everything he does. Instead of reimagining him or toning him down, I leaned fully into his signature look and let the pose do the talking.
The drawing focuses on that iconic flex, the oversized sailor muscles, and his no-nonsense expression. It’s Popeye in his purest form: tough, scrappy, and completely unbothered. The clean lines and bold shapes let his attitude come through without needing a full scene around him.
I kept the colors bright and simple, pushing the blues and reds just enough to give the piece some energy without overwhelming it. The background stays loose and stylized—just enough motion to match the character’s personality.
Sometimes it’s fun to draw a character exactly the way you remember them, no twists, no modernizing—just classic design, solid shapes, and a big dose of character. This one was all about capturing Popeye’s larger-than-life presence in a single moment.
